The Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role will come from a strong Windows, .NET, SQL Server background, although strong software development lifecycle skill sets will also be a fit. Quick question for you - click here Additionally, to be a strong fit for this role you will have:
  • A bachelor’s degree and/or 8 years of equivalent software development or design experience; including a combination of the following:
    • 5 - 8 years of solution architecture design experience.
    • 3 - 5 years of software modeling experience (e.g. RUP, Agile, UML).
    • 3 - 5 years of leading development teams will be helpful.
  • The ability to architect high-volume transaction processing systems and an understanding of the effects of various factors on the health and performance of applications making up larger solutions, and the ability to conduct design reviews, both from an application and database perspective.
  • Software modeling and visual representation skills.
  • The ability to survey emerging technologies and evangelize new technologies, standards and methodologies that will have a positive impact on cost and performance.
  • Solid understanding of architecture and processing, as well as of how software architecture and design relates to larger project objectives.
  • Self-motivation, and the ability to take initiative to identify, communicate, and resolve potential issues.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Systems Manager, as Solutions Architect, you will serve as the technical arm of Account Management, where you will make an impact defining the applications and essential core design features and maintaining the integrity of solution designs as they evolve during the development and implementation lifecycle. You'll coordinate and communicate hardware and software technical process issues, concerns, upgrades and more. 

You will join a talented, collaborative team that includes a Systems Architect, Business Architect, Test Manager, Technical Services Manager, and Interface Architects, and you'll also enjoy working with a variety of other contacts and departments to successfully roll out solutions to the sites that facilitate business objectives. More specifically, as a sampling of your duties and responsibilities, you will:
  • Identify the standards and technologies for implementing solutions and enabling performance qualities, such as availability, scalability, recoverability, etc.
  • Select the appropriate architecture and technologies for solutions and interfaces between software components.
  • Evaluate and select server hardware, software configuration, and ongoing job control for a specific solution area.
  • Support the Applications architect in either selecting application, or developing, customizing and maintaining the framework.
  • Plan acceptance test criteria for solutions and assist test teams conducting integration and acceptance testing.
  • Balance quality issues (cost vs. robustness) for solution designs and assist in parametric cost estimations.
  • Monitor performance benchmarks for solutions provided by customer service level agreements.
  • Participate in the drafting of service level agreements.
  • Establish processes to monitor existing systems for performance problems and draft environment roll-out migration plans.
  • Participate in tuning and troubleshooting software applications and solutions.
  • Assist technical support teams in defect management, an assist in strategic sales efforts from a technical perspective.
  • Train fellow architects and engineers in new or unfamiliar software designs and programming techniques.
  • Work with the appropriate group to roll out solutions to the sites and facilitate solution training and adoption.
  • Assist delivery teams with solving complex technical issues.
  • Establish, document, and roll out software architecture processes and procedures.
  • Provide recommendations, alternatives, leadership and guidance to Product Development team leads, and other MMS teams regarding software product questions and issues; and enforce adherence to processes and procedures.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
